Itoki Corporation (Head office: Joto-ku, Osaka City, President: Yoshiro Hirai) has won the top-ranking gold award in the product design category of the international iF DESIGN AWARD 2017. Its winning product is the FLIP FLAP Chair.

Comment from the Jury

An office chair which shows an extremely high level of innovativeness.
The exterior exhibits a superior level of creativity, with folding flaps on both sides of the backrest, and it can be adjusted to fit the body of the user. The mechanism also functions extremely well. The position of the seat and the angle can be changed as required, and it achieves the optimum in ergonomic design. The adjustment knob is intuitive and easy to use, and it is an extremely comfortable chair in all ways.

FLIP FLAP Chair

The idea for this multifaceted design came from origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. The chair bends in three dimensions to support a range of postures. With a straightforward and simple structure, the chair offers a new sensation, and prevents the user from tiring easily, even when working long hours.

iF DESIGN AWARD

The globally influential design award was established in 1953 by the Industry Forum Design Hannover (iF), an organization based in Hannover, Germany, which aims to promote design internationally. It comprises the following seven categories: Product, Packaging, Communication, Service Design, Architecture, Interior Architecture and Professional Concept. Every year the organization confers awards on industrial products from around the world which show excellence in design.
This year, it received 5,575 submissions from 59 countries, and chose 75 gold award winners.
