Project Concept

"Haier Asia R&D Co., Ltd." was established as a new research and development base in Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture, Japan in the spring of 2015.

The Haier Asia Group is a global manufacturer of household electric appliances having the No. 1 share in the world in major appliances (white goods) for six years in a row until 2014. The new construction project was developed to establish the R&D center as an independent research and development business enterprise to work on the technology, development and designing for Haier Asia Co., Ltd. which assumes the core role in the group and integrates the business activities in Japan and the ASEAN countries.

A non-territorial layout extended over four floors has been employed to break free from the past; change the awareness, work style and corporate culture; and thereby lead the industry and develop the main products becoming the de facto standards. "The environment where the contact points and distance among people, goods and information change freely" was established to materialize the interactions among all workers, instant access to the goods whenever and wherever, academia-industry cooperation and the interactions among the different industries.

Being completely different from a conventional office, the actual workers were involved in the environment creation by employing the Pre-Design method to make sure that the new office is utilized.
